Master of Ceremonies Over the years, and particularly during the 1970s, much of the ceremony surrounding the Papal Courts was drastically reduced to the point where the majority of it is abandoned now. However the master of ceremonies role continues on, with a master now dealing with the organisation of mass, and is someone of particular importance during Christmas and Easter services. The master of ceremonies role has been adapted into modern culture with comedy clubs employing an MC to host the night's events, introduce each act and make any necessary announcements to the audience. A more widely known application of the phrase "MC" is in hip-hop or rap culture, where the person assuming the role is there to work the crowd. Often in this role the MC will deliver rhymes either freestyle or pre-written verses. The acronym itself has almost become a phrase of its own, almost never being referred to in its full master of ceremonies form. One of the roles a professional wedding toastmaster will take on is that of master of ceremonies. They are there to ensure your wedding day runs smoothly, leaving you to enjoy your special day without cause to worry.
